The state of the world

Societal rant written by yours truly.

It is through ourselves that we are oppressed. Not through any third party but merely through our daily decisions and lifestyles. Our gross apathy and disconnection from the reality of the world. The great irony being that one of the main distractions in the 21st century that creates this apathy and disconnection is through the falsely advertised “reality television”. It is the world that Huxley feared that has mostly come to be. In some stretches of the world George Orwell’s vision is slowly coming to life. The beauty of oppression is the combination of the two authors feared worlds. In order to institute the world of Orwell we must first create a society as apathetic and self-absorbed as Huxley had envisioned. The population must be distracted with the worlds pleasures and distractions so that they do not notice the disappearance of information and other rights or pay no mind out of disinterest. We live in the 21st century in which information has never been more widely available at an instants notice. Yet we use this incredible human achievement for things like celebrity blogs and TMZ. Even without actively seeking the knowledge myself my mind has become so full of useless knowledge of people that for the most part are unimportant. A person is incapable of escaping the flood of information that slithers into our daily interactions. Yet for the most part I find myself having to actively seek out information of any real importance. Which only shows the true value of the conversations and interactions I have with the people in my life. By consuming celebrity gossip, tv shows, movies, pornography and obsessing over material things we are are merely wasting away in a constant state of desire of lives we will never live. Envy of things we will never  possess. I’ll end this with a quote from someone that I did not think I would ever quote in such an impromptu essay, but I shall leave you with the words of Albus Dumbledore, “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live..”
